Hi everyone ,

I am much interested in converting a VW Golf 1.6l.(direct injection) diesel to opperate on SVO . I will most likely use fuel heating device and possibly twin fuel reservoir configuration . I would greatly appreciate any input of European (German) users of ancient VW golf modified similarly.

Hi,

I'm running the same engine 1,6l whirlchamber (not DI) turbodiesel. My conversion exists of:
-12° injector nozzles (Bosch: DN12SD283)- should also work with DN0SD273 at 155bar opening pressure.
-Filter type heat exchanger (see my homepage)
-after start preheating: Just swapped the old relais for a new one with 3 min heating after you started the engine.
-still kept the original glow plugs (however 23mm Duratherm would improve it)
-8mm fuel lines
-NO return line short cur as this will collect air in the pump.
-not more than 2000 (!) rpm until the engine is on working temp.

    Hi,

a 91 Golf 1.6 with direct injection does not exist. All VW/Audi 1.6 Diesel engines have a precombustion chamber.

    If you

    1. preheat your oil with a coolant/fuel temp exchanger
    2. replace the ancient fuel hose by a tube or hose with a diameter of at least 10 mm
    3. mount new injectors if necessary with a slightly higher opening pressure and 23mm heater plugs
    4. avoid engine speeds above 3000 rpm within the first 15 minutes after start

you should be able to run your Golf at 100% of rape oil. Depends on climatic circumstances. If you live in northern Canada or Sweden/Siberia you should eventually think it over :-)

    Good luck!

    Uli

Thanks to both of you , I will most certainly get into some experimentation ... thank you also for correcting me on the nature of the injection system . I do hown this diesel cars only since a few weeks and was lead to beleive it actualy was fed by direct injection .
