Hallo, I have a caravelle using svo in England. So far have done 4000K. I am using a Kenlow engine heater (2.7kw) to heat for one hour before using the van. Everything seems to be working fine but I am worried about long term effects and problems with using this oil.
I think I need some sort of oil heating to use while running the engine. I do not think that a two tank system will work in my case because I do a lot of short journeys, 3km.
Thank you for your help.
regards
Pete

Hi Peter,

In addition to what Uli sai, I'd like to suggest you have a look at this instant heater based on a glow plug. You don't face these problems with the MOT as we do in Germany when we install something like this. So it may be useful for you : http://www.oilpress.com/rape-therm.JPG .
Some other way yould be a Bosch filter heater. Maybe somebody has one left here as they are not being sold as a single part. But you will e.g. find it in Vauxhall Astras between the fuel filter and the holder.

However, if you could send us some more detailed information on your car (engine) we youd provide some more hints for you. What e.g means "SD"? Is it a direct injection or still a whirlchamber engine without a turbo?

Stephan

    Hi, Pete,
a popular heater to use while the engine is running is a heat exchanger used on the Audi A8. You can get it as a spare part from your local Audi/VW dealer. People in Germany using this heater report that the oil is 60 to 90 degrees Celsius after it has passed this heater. If you need more information you are welcome to ask in this forum.
    Cheers, Uli.
